Discover the Greenway

A fun afternoon celebrating the historic, contemporary and natural environment of the Greenway.

Date: 25 July
Time: Noon to 4pm
Where: At the new View Tube on the Greenway
(5mins from Pudding Mill Lane DLR Station)

Explore the Greenway and get up close to the Olympic Park

The Greenway is a five mile long walking and cycle route built on top of the giant Victorian Northern Outfall Sewer in East London, running alongside the Olympic Park. From the Greenway, there is an amazing view of the building of the Olympic Park. An exciting new building is springing up on the Greenway with close-up views of the 2012 Olympic Park that’s just waiting to be discovered…come along to this fun afternoon to discover the new building, the Greenway and take part in lots of lively and interesting free activities for all the family.

Experts from the natural, historic and contemporary built environments will lead walks and talks to bring the Greenway and local area alive. A programme of family activities involving young people is planned including young musicians playing music inspired by the Shropshire Hills, drawing and fun sports.

Other activities include:

  •  Films
  • Games
  • It’s a Knock-Out
  • Mural Making
  • Historic Tours
  • Health Walks
  • Architecture Talks
  • Writer’s Corner
  • Bird Watching
  • Butterfly Seeking

All activities on a first come, first served basis.

The afternoon also offers the fantastic opportunity to explore the nearby House Mill, the grade 1 listed 18th century tidal mill on the banks of the Lea Navigation. The doors of House Mill are going to be opening for tours of what is believed to be, the largest tidal mill still in existence in the world.

It will be a day for everyone and people are invited to join in or just sit down, bring a picnic and enjoy the view.
