In 2005 members confirmed three advocacy groups as, Spatial Planning, Funding and Inclusion. 

In 2010 the Board agreed to confirm a further advocacy group on Rural Heritage.  The Advocacy Groups bring members together to share information and expertise. They meet 3 or 4 times a year to deliver an annual programme drawn up by their members and the Board. They are expected to have an information/capacity building role, to contribute to policy and campaigning; and to generate an annual product.

These four advocacy groups act as standing committees keeping an overview of initiatives and emerging issues, formulating projects and actions which are brought together in the annual operations plan. Short term Task Groups are appointed to deliver individual projects and are dissolved once these have been completed.
